Our Edinburgh Fringe 2026 Recommendations

1 Jun 2026

For a few glorious weeks every summer, Edinburgh stops being just a city and becomes a playground for artists. Streets fill with performers, flyers appear in your hands before you know it, and every doorway seems to lead to a comedy show, a gripping drama, a live music set, or something so wonderfully weird you can only find it at the Edinburgh Fringe.

This year the Fringe Fest will run from 07 - 31 August 2026 with over 3,500 shows already announced. So in tradition, we've compiled a list of our favourite activities and must-see shows for this year's Fringe Fest.

What Fringe Shows Should I See?

The best thing about the Edinburgh Fringe is the diversity of art. There's something for everyone!

That’s why, every year, we put together a guide of some of the things we are most looking forward to seeing and doing. We’ve chosen a wee bit of everything to give you plenty of variety, and hopefully some inspiration for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which in 2026 runs from August 7th to August 31st.

We'll be updating this page as the weeks come, so be sure to bookmark and keep an eye on this page for all of our recommendations.

We'd love to hear what shows you are looking forward to seeing as well - you can let us know by contacting us on our social media accounts - we are @timberbushtours everywhere.

Explore the Royal Mile

No visit to the Fringe (or Edinburgh) is complete without a stroll along the Royal Mile. During the festival, Edinburgh's most famous street becomes a vibrant open-air stage, buzzing with performers, musicians, magicians, and artists competing for your attention. Every few steps brings something new, from jaw-dropping acrobatics to impromptu comedy sketches, creating an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the world. Even if you don't have a show booked, spending an afternoon wandering the Royal Mile is one of the best ways to soak up the energy, creativity, and excitement that make the Fringe so special.

Daniel Sloss: BITTER

World-famous Scottish comedian Daniel Sloss will be taking his latest show to Sir Billy Connolly's favourite venue, the Auditorium at Edinburgh Playhouse.

Known for blending dark, thought-provoking humour with personal stories and social commentary, the Netflix superstar will be performing his new show, BITTER, for one night only on Friday the 14th. If you're a lover of comedians who aren't afraid to touch on the taboo, challenge societal norms, and make you feel slightly uncomfortable while doing it, don't miss Daniel's only show at the Fringe Fest!

Swamplesque

Returning for its 3rd year, the award-winning Swamplesque is one of the Fringe's most popular events. Inspired by everyone's favourite Scottish ogre, the critically acclaimed burlesque drag parody has been a knock-out seller at the Fringe since 2024, being described as Shrek meets RuPaul's Drag Race.

Given how popular it's been in the last few years, we highly recommend booking tickets early

It's Always Sunny on Olympus

For those who want a more mature show, there is the brand-new Fringe show, It's Always Sunny on Olympus.

This comedy-drama follows the Greek gods: Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hermes and Athena, as they find themselves in the uncomfortable position of having to create a new world order after the war with the Titans.

If the Greek pantheon, family drama, and uniquely Scottish humour sound like something you'd love, get your tickets today!

Family Friendly Activities

Bringing the kids to the Fringe? You're in luck. Edinburgh is packed with family-friendly entertainment, from interactive shows and colourful street performers to unique experiences designed to keep little ones (and their grown-ups) entertained all day long.

For families looking for something fun, energetic, and educational, Britain's Got Talent finalist and multimedia comedian Ted Hill returns with Ted Hill Teaches You Science, Most of Which Is True. Expect hilarious experiments, fascinating facts, and plenty of audience participation in a show that makes learning feel like an adventure.

Disney fans won't want to miss the Encanto Sing-A-Long at Dynamic Earth. Hosted beneath the stars in the venue's spectacular planetarium, this magical experience invites families to belt out their favourite songs from the beloved Disney hit in a setting unlike any other.

And, of course, no family trip to the Fringe would be complete without a visit to George Square Gardens. The bustling festival hub will once again be filled with family-friendly street entertainment, from circus acts and comedians to dancers and musicians. Whether you're stopping by for a few minutes or spending the afternoon soaking up the atmosphere, there's always something happening to captivate audiences of all ages.

Sunshine on Leith

Captivate Theatre, a much-beloved local theatre troupe, return with their rendition of Sunshine on Leith. The Edinburgh-based musical follows Ally and Davy as they deal with the challenges of families, friendships and love in this funny and moving story featuring songs by Scottish music legends, The Proclaimers.

This sellout show is a fantastic addition to any Fringe itinerary and gives a beautiful insight into life in the city.

Exploring the Rest of Scotland

As tempting as it is to spend every waking hour immersed in the street performers and stage shows of the Fringe, taking a day to explore the country beyond Edinburgh can be a great way to relax after the chaos of Fringe week and see another side of Scotland.

From the dramatic mountains and lochs of the Highlands to the charming fishing villages of the East Neuk of Fife, Scotland offers breathtaking scenery at every turn. History lovers can explore ancient castles and battlefields, while outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy coastal walks, wildlife spotting, and some of the most picturesque viewpoints in the UK.

A day away from the festival crowds can provide the perfect reset before diving back into Edinburgh's packed programme of shows and events. Whether you're gazing across a misty loch, exploring a historic town, or sampling local food and whisky, venturing beyond the capital is a fantastic way to make the most of your Scottish adventure.

If you want to plan a reset during your Fringe trip, we have plenty of different tours to choose from so you can explore the best of Scotland in just 1-day!
