Our 1-day Loch Ness experience from Edinburgh showcases some of the most striking landscapes Scotland has to offer. This private tour visits beautiful Loch Ness, the atmospheric glen of Glencoe, and offers the option of a serene cruise on the loch.

A refined Highland adventure from Edinburgh

Departing from Edinburgh, your vehicle travels north-west, passing the majestic silhouette of Stirling Castle before arriving in the Callander area for light refreshments. Depending on the season, you may even spot a Highland coo grazing nearby. The journey continues through Rob Roy Country, home to Clans MacGregor and Campbell, before crossing the sweeping expanse of Rannoch Moor and the Black Mount. Soon, we arrive in Glencoe, one of Scotland’s most iconic glens and the haunting site of the 1692 MacDonald massacre. Here, you’ll pause to take in the views and capture photographs in this unforgettable landscape.

Immerse yourself in the beauty of Loch Ness

Travelling onward via Loch Linnhe, we pause in the Fort William area for lunch before entering the dramatic Great Glen, passing beneath Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis. Continuing through the charming village of Fort Augustus, we reach historic Urquhart Castle. Here, you may choose to enjoy an optional combined cruise and castle experience.

If you prefer, your journey continues to the Clansman Hotel, where you will have an hour of free time. Relax in the hotel and perhaps indulge in the optional “Donald Fraser – Illicit Whisky Experience,” a 20–30 minute presentation exploring the history of illicit distilling, paired with a dram of the Donald Fraser blend (optional extra, £12). Alternatively, explore the surroundings, including the Old Coffin Road Walk, which begins at the hotel, or opt for a one-hour cruise on Loch Ness, offering exceptional views of Urquhart Castle (optional extra).

Loch Ness, stretching 24 miles and plunging over 700 feet deep, is world-famous for sightings of its elusive resident, “Nessie.” Spend time enjoying its serene beauty, with the option of a tranquil cruise on the loch.

Your return through the Highlands

As we begin our return to Edinburgh, your vehicle travels through the Cairngorms National Park and the scenic woodlands of Perthshire, including the Forest of Atholl. We pause in the Victorian town of Pitlochry for early evening refreshments before completing our journey back to Edinburgh, crossing over the majestic Forth Bridges.

What should I bring with me?

As we like to give you as much time off the vehicle as possible with the opportunity for walks, we recommend you bring warm and/or waterproof clothing, wear comfortable walking shoes and take sun-block or a hat for sunny days.

Don't forget your camera to capture all the lovely scenery and wildlife you'll encounter on your tour!

Since we cannot allow hot food in our vehicles you could also bring a cold packed lunch with you to make the most of your time at each stop, this would be particularly time-saving in the busier months!

Can children travel on this tour?

Yes, unlike our scheduled tours, we are able to bring children of all ages on our private tours.

Please communicate with our team about what ages your children will be so that we are able to accommodate them with children's seats.

Will I see Nessie?

There have been many reported sightings over the years of "Nessie", - the affectionate name given to the mysterious creature that is reputed to live in the deep waters of Scotland's most famous loch, Loch Ness.

The myths and stories surrounding Nessie have fascinated both young and old alike for centuries - the earliest reported sighting by St. Columba back in the 6th Century!

So always have your camera at the ready - you never know if she's out there, just below the surface...

How accessible are the locations?

Some of the locations may cause accessibility issues due to their geography and architecture.

If you are a wheelchair user or have restricted mobility, we would suggest downloading this helpful Access Guide by Historic Environment Scotland.

If you can’t find what you are looking for, don't worry! Just because it's not here, doesn't mean we can't do it. Have a look at our private tour page or contact us directly, and we will make it happen!
