Why Rewilding Matters

Scotland is world-famous for its dramatic landscapes, but many of our wild areas have been shaped over centuries by people, farming, and industry. Today, we’re at a turning point. With climate change, biodiversity loss, and habitat degradation making headlines, there’s never been a more important time to support the natural world.

That’s where rewilding comes in.

Rewilding is about restoring ecosystems to the point where nature can take care of itself again. It means reintroducing native species, letting forests regrow, and allowing rivers and woodlands to return to their natural rhythms. And in Scotland, exciting rewilding projects are already making a difference.

This tour is your chance to see one of those projects up close, getting to meet the incredible people who are ensuring that Scotland’s unparalleled beauty will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Trees for Life Dundreggan Rewilding Centre

The heart of this tour lies at the Dundreggan Rewilding Centre, operated by the charity Trees for Life. Here, you'll walk through ancient Caledonian forest being brought back to life, a rare and sacred landscape that once blanketed much of the Highlands.

At Dundreggan, more than 4,000 species of plants and animals find refuge, from the hardy Scots pine to the elusive pine marten. This stop isn’t just about admiring the view, it’s a chance to learn how community-driven conservation and rewilding can reverse centuries of environmental decline.

We hope that you will come away inspired and educated by this unique location, and feel proud that knowing that by simply booking a ticket and coming on tour, a tree has been planted and you have played your part in restoring the Caledonian Forest.
