Our Glasgow Outlander Shore Excursion enjoys a full day exploring the filming locations of the famous TV series. Discover Linlithgow Palace - Outlander's Wentworth Prison, see Blackness Castle - the Headquarters of Black Jack Randall and explore Doune Castle - home of the Clan MacKenzie.
We depart Greenock and travel north, along the coastline, passing Glasgow and on to our first stop of the day, Doune Castle*. The Castle is also known as Outlander's home of the MacKenzie Clan, and here you can take an audio tour narrated by Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser). We stop here to visit the atmospheric castle and explore its grounds, before we journey onwards.
We travel further west to the historical town of Linlithgow for lunch. Here we have time to grab a bite to eat, refreshments, and perhaps visit Linlithgow Palace*; setting for Outlander's 'Wentworth Prison'. The palace was originally used as a relaxing retreat for the Royal Family on journeys between Edinburgh and Stirling Castle. Its impressive towers overlook stunning scenery.
After lunch, we continue westwards towards the outskirts of Edinburgh and visit Blackness Castle. The castle was used as the set the Headquarters of Outlander's Black Jack Randall, on the shores of the Firth of Forth. This castle dates back to the 15th Century; home to the Crichton family, its mighty fortifications make this ancient castle look like a 'ship that never sailed'.
From Blackness, we begin our journey back to Greenock, where our shore excursion ends.
2020 - additional dates to be confirmed.
