The Outlander shore excursion departs from Edinburgh and explores the locations made popular in the book and TV series. Enjoy a visit to Linlithgow Palace, Blackness Castle, Culross and Doune Castle. Step into the world of Outlander for a full day, on our guided coach tour of Scotland.
Our Outlander tour travels north-west from your Cruise Port, following in the footsteps of Claire and Jamie to Blackness Castle* for our first stop of the day. Blackness Castle was the setting of Black Jack Randall's Headquarters and is situated on the Firth of Forth. This castle dates back to the 15th Century; home to the Crichton Family, its mighty fortifications make the building look like 'a ship that never sailed'. Spend time here exploring its magnificent walls and enjoy breathtaking views over the Firth of Forth.
We then journey on to the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow, where you will have the opportunity to visit Linlithgow Palace*, Outlander's 'Wentworth Prison'. The palace was originally used as a relaxing retreat for the Royal Family on journeys between Edinburgh and Stirling Castle. Its impressive towers overlook stunning scenery.
After Linlithgow, we travel onwards to Doune Castle*, the home of Outlanders' Clan MacKenzie, where you can take an audio tour narrated by Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser). We stop here to explore the castle and its atmospheric grounds before our tour continues.
From Doune, we begin our return journey home, stopping at the Royal Burgh of Culross. A tiny village nestled on the coast of Fife, Culross is arguably the best example of a 17th Century village in Scotland. The gardens here feature in Claire's herb garden, and the Mercat Cross in Outlander's Cranesmuir Village. Here we stop with plenty of time to explore the village and its cobbled streets and quaint Biscuit Café, before we return to your cruise port.
