Departure Point
Spend a day in one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland: the Trossachs. Enjoy wonderful lochside scenery, a cruise on Loch Lomond, lunch in Aberfoyle and an unmissable visit to the imposing Stirling Castle, one of Scotland's most important castles for centuries.
Departing Edinburgh, heading west, we travel to Glasgow, formerly the industrial capital of the old British Empire and now a thriving, contemporary city which will be home to Scotland's Commonwealth Games in 2014. Look out for key landmarks such as the Cathedral, the University and the Fairfield Crane, as we pass.
We cross the Firth of Clyde and move on to the 'bonny, bonny banks' of Loch Lomond, where you can relax on a cruise of the Southern parts of the loch, and enjoy great views across the water. After lunch in Aberfoyle we make our way into The Trossachs, on the southern edge of the Highlands, often called 'Scotland in miniature' because of its stunning scenery; and more famous, perhaps, for being home to the outlaw, Rob Roy MacGregor.
Driving through the Trossachs, we leave the best till last as we make our final stop of the day at the imposing and impressive Stirling Castle, sitting high on volcanic rock, commanding wonderful views across the country. You will have time to visit the castle and hear of the exploits of key historical figures including William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, King James V and Mary, Queen of Scots. We then make our way back to Edinburgh.
