A brief photograph stop between the FORTH’s two GREAT BRIDGES and we’re off to the ancient ROYAL BURGH OF LINLITHGOW with its ROYAL PALACE and LOCH; birthplace of MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS; learning of ‘BLOODY TAM’ DALYELL of the HOUSE OF THE BINNS and his cards-games with THE DEVIL as we go! From LINLITHGOW we travel past FALKIRK, with its ROMAN history and two bloody battles: first WILLIAM WALLACE’s and, later, ‘BONNIE’ PRINCE CHARLIE’s. Then it is by way of BANNOCKBURN, scene of ROBERT THE BRUCE’s great victory, to the strategically invaluable STIRLING CASTLE. Our final visit is to the WALLACE MEMORIAL high on the precipitous ABBEY CRAIG, where the great Scots patriot and his small army awaited the right time to fall on the approaching English military masses at the BATTLE OF STIRLING BRIG.
