Invest five days exploring Scotland's history and culture amongst some of the finest scenery that the Highlands and Islands have to offer.

DAY 1

Passing Stirling, our road traces old drove routes whose early users would have travelled in fear of ROB ROY MACGREGOR; eventually crossing the wildness of RANNOCH MOOR before descending to the coast via GLENCOE. Skirting BEN NEVIS, and leaving FORT WILLIAM behind, we might pause by the COMMANDO MEMORIAL, whose three giant figures stand silent sentinel over their old training area. Then it’s INVERGARRY and GLENGARRY, scene of bloody battles between clans, of murder and revenge, spectacular GLENSHIEL, a crossing to SKYE, and on to our home for the next two nights; the island’s capital, PORTREE

DAY 2

The romantic ISLE OF MIST, Skye offers us a day filled with visits to bizarre rock formations: THE OLD MAN OF STORR, THE QUIRAING, and KILT ROCK; tales of the supernatural: THE FAERIE GLEN and THE FAERIE FLAG; stories of Clan rivalries: the MACDONALDs and the MACLEODs; as well as evidence of IRON AGE occupation of the Island.

DAY 3

On our journey from Skye to our next base in INVERNESS, we visit EILEAN DONAN CASTLE before traversing the wild expanse of WESTER ROSS with its memories of THE HIGHLAND CLEARANCES, LOST VILLAGES, and PAST INDUSTRIES. Further stops will take in natural features like CORRIESHALLOCH GORGE and ROGIE FALLS and the supernatural like THE CLOOTIE WELL.

DAY 4

Probably the most leisurely day of the tour will take us for a wine-tasting at MONIACK CASTLE, a woodland stroll through THE GREAT CALEDONIAN FOREST in GLEN AFFRIC, a visit to LOCH NESS and possibly URQUHART CASTLE, a stop at FORT AUGUSTUS and NEPTUNE’S STAIRCASE before returning to INVERNESS along the more scenic southern shore of the Loch.

DAY 5

Ensuring you get the absolute most out of your tour our journey from INVERNESS to EDINBURGH is as full of interest as any day thus far. First stop is the emotion-laden CULLODEN BATTLEFIELD followed by ancient NEOLITHIC CLAVA CAIRNS before light relief with ‘A TOUR AND A TASTE’ at TOMATIN DISTILLERY. The scenic splendour of THE ROTHIEMURCHUS ESTATE is immediately followed by RUTHVEN BARRACKS and THE HIGHLAND FOLK MUSEUM. Then it’s THE HERMITAGE and romantic OSSIAN’S HALL before we end our epic journey crossing the FORTH back into EDINBURGH.
