Journey through the ancient 'Kingdom of Fife' - once a Pictish princedom. Famed for its picturesque fishing villages, Medieval palaces, castles and - of course - St Andrews; home of golf, ancient seat of learning, and last known resting place of bones of St Andrew!
Crossing the FORTH BRIDGE to the 'KINGDOM OF FIFE', travelling along the EAST NEUK, through coastal villages and harbours, once thriving fishing centres made richer on trade with the Continent, and on to ST. ANDREWS; famous for its ecclesiastical past, its oldest of universities (where Prince William, our future King currently studies) and as hallowed home of golf. See the sites, have lunch and stroll back along the beach, among ruins or through the lanes for two hours or more.
Our afternoon takes us to FALKLAND, another charming village, this one dominated by its 16th CENTURY PALACE - home of MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS. Its Renaissance facades are the earliest in Britain, its gardens a delight, and its tennis (Real Tennis) court the oldest still in use in Europe.
Heading homewards we traverse the heart of the LOMOND HILLS, descending to LOCH LEVEN (scene of MARY STUART's imprisonment and escape) and on to EDINBURGH.
